About NTC Thermistors
NTC (Negative Temperature Coefficient) thermistors are temperature sensors whose resistance decreases as temperature increases.
B-Value Formula
The B-value characterizes the relationship between resistance and temperature:
Where temperatures must be in Kelvin (K = °C + 273.15)
Steinhart-Hart Equation
A more accurate model for converting resistance to temperature:
Where T is in Kelvin, R is resistance in ohms, and A, B, C are coefficients specific to the thermistor.
The B-value method uses a simplified model that assumes a constant B-value across the temperature range. The Steinhart-Hart equation provides higher accuracy by using three coefficients that account for non-linear behavior.
